Using the Course Catalog App to Explore CodeHS Courses and Materials

Use the course catalog to find customizable courses to use within your classroom as well as Materials for each of the courses

Course Catalog App Overview

The Course Catalog app houses over 100 free customizable courses in various programming languages for middle school and high school. Most CodeHS courses are free, accessible, and engaging for students of all levels. Every course includes hundreds of engaging lessons, projects, video tutorials, quizzes, and more!

To navigate to the Course Catalog, click on the Course Catalog app from the left-hand side nav underneath the Curriculum category:

Using the Course Catalog App Tools

The Course Catalog app features two tools, which can be accessed by the tabs at the top of the page: CodeHS Courses and Materials.

CodeHS Courses

The CodeHS Courses tool is where you will find all of our courses for middle school and high school.

Searching & Filtering Courses

To find a specific course, you can use the search bar as well as filter by Tags, Grade Level, and Timeframe. All CodeHS courses can be found below the search and filter options. Each course listing displays the contact hours and timeframe.

Course Tiles

Each course tile displays essential curriculum details at a glance: a brief description, grade level, contact hours, and timeframe. Click the blue Teach This Course button to get started, or click either the course tile or the Explore button to view full course details.

Teach This Course:

Click this button to begin setting up this course. In the modal, you can name your course, add a section, manage assignments, or view all your courses in the Courses app.

Explore:

Click Explore (or select the course tile) to open the course details page. Here, you can review full curriculum specifications, including:

  • Add Section: Set up a new class section to begin teaching.

  • Syllabus & Teaching Materials: Access to course syllabus, course resources & materials, and class section assignments.

  • Course Overview: Target grade level, contact hours, lesson count, videos, exercises, and available languages.

  • Module Breakdown: A complete list of units and topics.

  • Demo Programs: Hands-on projects included in the course.

  • Standards Alignment: Breakdown of course alignment with state curriculum standards.

More Options (...):

Access the three dots menu to preview the course from a student's view or assign this course directly to your existing courses.

Materials

In the Materials tool, you will find a full breakdown of a course including the modules, lessons, and assignments as well as resources for the course including the Lesson Plans, Handouts, Solution References, Problem Guides, and Textbook Sections for each of the lessons/activities. You can also preview each assignment within the code editor using the Preview (blue play button) icon.

Use the Course dropdown to select a course to view the materials for:

Note: CodeHS Lesson plans are available for teachers on the CodeHS Pro Plan. Free teachers can access the first five lesson plans of a course as a sample.
