The CodeHS Sandbox is available to everyone for free. Visitors who are not logged in to a CodeHS account can create and share Sandbox programs with others, but some features are only available while logged in to CodeHS.

Creating a Sandbox Program

To create a new Sandbox program, go to https://codehs.com/explore/sandbox. Scroll down and choose the type of program you'd like to create by selecting + Create New. You can use the filter to only show selected coding languages.

In the following window, select + Get Started to create a new program using the default template, or select Fork to create a copy of one of the example programs:

Saving and Organizing Work

When using the Sandbox while logged out, it won't be possible to save work to a specific account, to see all your previously created Sandbox programs in one place, nor to organize them into folders.

However, any created program will still be saved on the CodeHS servers. To come back to your Sandbox program at a later time, be sure to copy the page URL and store it in a place where it won't be lost. You can use this URL to access your program again, even after you've left the page.

Sharing and Collaboration

Visitors who are not logged in to a CodeHS account can share their programs with others and embed their code elsewhere, but won't be able to change the Share Settings, such as public or private visibility, or enable collaboration with others.

Check out Sharing Sandbox Programs for more information.
