CodeHS is proud to introduce AI Hints to help teachers manage their classrooms and improve student learning outcomes! When you are reviewing student code, you can generate an AI Hint which will point out where the program can be improved. Hints can be accessed within the Code Editor and from the AI Toolbox.

Accessing Your AI Tools

To access the AI Tools:

  1. Join the AI Hints beta by visiting AI Tools.

  2. Review the tool instructions and disclaimers and click Join Beta.

  3. Begin using the AI Hints! After joining the AI Hints beta group, you can join the waitlist to get early access to new and experimental AI Features as they become available!

Using AI Hints in the AI Toolbox

  1. Click Toolbox in the top navigation panel and choose AI Toolbox. You can also visit codehs.com/toolbox/ai.

  2. Choose Try a Demo Program or Try it With Your Students' Work to view a program.

  3. On the far right, choose which level of hint you would like to create, and choose Generate AI Hint. You can also edit the student code to see how the hint will change!

  4. If you are viewing a student's program, click Send Hint to share the suggestion with students. Students will see the suggestion in the Conversation tab of their Code Editor.

  5. Optional: Give feedback on the hint that was generated!

Using AI Hints in the Code Editor

  1. When viewing a student's code in the editor, click More > Conversation.

  2. Choose which level Hint you would like to create and choose Generate Hint.

  3. Edit the message and once you are happy with the text, click Send to share the hint with the students.

  4. Optional: Give feedback on the hint that was generated!

Using AI Hints in Fast Grade:

When using Fast Grade from the Code Review tab, you can use AI Hints to suggest a grade for your students code submission!

  1. When in the Code Review Tab, select Fast Grade.

  2. Click the blue Suggest Grades button.

  3. Select the difficulty of your AI generated grade (how lenient the grade should be).

Providing Feedback on AI Hints

Similar to other AI tools, we are always training and working to improve our AI features. As a teacher, you have the ability to rate and provide written feedback for each AI suggestion you receive!

Click the thumbs up or thumbs down to rate your suggestion and give feedback in the popup modal or return to your AI Feed to provide feedback at a later time.
