Fast Grade allows you to quickly grade student submissions

Fast Grade is a CodeHS Pro tool designed to make grading student submissions on CodeHS quick and easy.

Main Features:

  • Get access to all the information that you need to know about the submission you are grading.

  • Assign a grade with a single click.

  • Send new messages to students and review previous messages sent to students.

  • Compare the student’s code to the assignment's solution code.

  • Filter for the submissions that you need to grade. You can filter submissions by Assignment, Section, and Progress.

Accessing Fast Grade

There are a few different ways to access the Fast Grade tool:

From the Toolbox

Open the Toolbox from the top navigation bar and select Fast Grade under the Grading category:

From the Lefthand Navigation Menu

Under the Grading category, click on Fast Grade:

From the Code Review App

Click on Code Review in the lefthand navigation menu under the Grading category. You'll be taken to the Overview tool page, where you can find the Fast Grade button towards the top:

Awarding Grades in Fast Grade

There are four buttons used for grading in Fast Grade: Award Full Credit, Give Zero, Finalize, and Needs Work. Once you give a student a grade, the next submission will automatically appear.

  • Award Full Credit: gives the submission a full score and marks it as finalized.

  • Give Zero: gives the submission a score of 0 and marks it as finalized.

  • Finalize: takes the score you input and gives the submission that score. Marks the submission as finalized.

  • Needs Work: takes the score you input and gives the submission that score. Marks the submission as needs work.

Grading by Assignment for a Particular Section

With Fast Grade, you can grade all submissions for a particular section and assignment.

To do so, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to your Gradebook and select the section you'd like to grade.

  2. Click on the assignment you want to grade and select Fast Grade.

  3. You can now grade all submissions for one particular assignment at a time.

Applying filters to the Fast Grader

You can filter by Course, Section, Assignment name, or Assignment status while in Fast Grade mode.

To filter by Courses or Sections:

  1. Click on Filters and Ordering > Filter by > Sections

  2. Select any Course or Section that you’d like to fast grade.

  3. Don’t forget to click Apply Filters and Ordering to apply the changes!

You can select the bold Course title to add the Sections in the Course to the Fast Grade queue. You can also select the Section title to individually add Specific sections to the Fast Grade queue.

Removing Filters from the Fast Grader

You can remove filters from the Fast Grader in a few different ways.

Clicking the red Clear All Filters button deselects all of the filters that were previously selected:

Clicking on a Section title will remove all of the assignments from the Fast Grade queue:

Alternatively, you can click on a Course title to de-select all Sections using the same Course. Don’t forget to click Apply Filters and Ordering when you’re done with your selection!

Keyboard Shortcuts in Fast Grade

You can also use keyboard shortcuts to make the grading process even faster. Keyboard shortcuts can be found on the "?" icon on the right-hand side of the platform.
