Fixing Cursor or Typing Bugs in the IDE on Chromebooks

Monospace font on Chromebooks

If a student's cursor in Chromebooks is not aligned with their text, this may be due to browser font being changed to a non-Monospace font. A Monospace font is when every letter is the same width. The fonts can be configured through the browser's settings.

We recommend choosing the font Ayuthaya or Courier New, but any font with Mono in the name is sufficient.

How to update your Chrome Fonts

Here are the steps to update your Chrome Fonts:

1. Click the "..." > Settings In the top-right of the browser.

2. Click on "Appearance" on the left-hand sidebar and navigate to Customize Fonts.

3. Scroll down to Fixed-width Font and use the Dropdown to Select a Mono-Spaced Font.

4. Finally, check to make sure the browser's language is set properly to English. This can be done by navigating to Advanced > Languages and set the language to "English (United States)".
