Grade Passback from Cyber Range to CodeHS

Learn how grades passback from Cyber Range to the CodeHS gradebook and how to change a challenge's point total

Connecting a CodeHS Section to Cyber Range

In order for grades to passback from Cyber Range to the CodeHS gradebook, the CodeHS Section must be connected to Cyber Range.

Grade Passback

When student's complete challenges on Cyber Range, grades are automatically sent to the CodeHS Gradebook.

Teachers can also manually fetch Cyber Range Grades by clicking on the Pull Cyber Range Grades button in the CodeHS Gradebook:

Grade Passback with LMS integration

If your section is using both Cyber Range and an external LMS integration (such as Canvas, Google Classroom, or Schoology), grade passback operates in a 3-step chain:

  1. Cyber Range to CodeHS: When a student completes a challenge in Cyber Range, the grade automatically sends to the CodeHS Gradebook (or can be manually pulled using the Pull Cyber Range Grades button).

  2. CodeHS Gradebook Processing: The grade updates the student's challenge score within CodeHS according to the assignment's Point Totals (default is 10 points).

  3. CodeHS to LMS Integration: Once the score is recorded in the CodeHS Gradebook, the grade passes back to your connected LMS gradebook.

Point Totals

By default, each Cyber Range Challenge is worth 10 points in the CodeHS Gradebook. Cyber Range Challenges are Pass/Fail meaning that if a student completes a Cyber Range Challenge, they will be awarded full points for the activity in the CodeHS Gradebook.

Changing Challenge Point Totals

Teachers can change the amount of points that each Cyber Challenge is worth by adjusting the point total within the CodeHS Gradebook:

  1. Navigate to your Section's Gradebook in CodeHS

  2. Click on the blue Edit button

  3. Adjust the Points row (any previously graded student submissions will be regraded according to the new point total)

  4. Click Done in the top left
