Elementary students can interact with the CodeHop Playground and Elementary Courses by being enrolled in a Section. A Course is a sequence of lessons assigned to a specific group of students, also known as a Section.
Assigning from the Sections Page
Navigate to the CodeHop Sections page > click + Create New Section.
Choose a Computer Science Pathway:
Dedicated Computer Science: Focused Curriculum for Computer Science Education
Interdisciplinary Computer Science: Integrates Computer Science concepts across other subject areas
Review all Courses: Explore and review all course offerings
Select the Grade Level(s) that will be using the Section
Select a Course from recommendations based on selections, search for course, or create your own course.
Name your Section or Import a Section from Google Classroom.
Select Create Section button
Assigning from the Lessons Page
Elementary teachers can assign/unassign lessons to specific students. You can do this by:
Click Sections in the left nav bar > click into the section that needs assigning
Select the Lessons tab at the top center of the page
Click the 3-dots menu next to the lesson you want to assign, then choose one of the following:
Show to Students - assigns the lesson to all students in your Section. Your changes are applied right away, and you're done!
Assign to Specific Students - opens a pop-up where you can choose who gets assigned the lesson:
Viewing Lessons That Are Assigned to Your Students
To see which students have been assigned a lesson, open that lesson's Assign to Specific Students settings.
From your home page, select the Section containing the lesson you'd like to check.
When the Section opens, click the Lessons tab near the top of the page.
Click the 3-dots menu next to a lesson > Assign to Specific Students.
The pop-up shows which students currently have the lesson, indicated by their checkmarks. Selected students have access; unselected students do not.
Adding Lessons to Your Course
Select Sections from the left navigation menu
Click into your Section > Click the Lessons tab
Scroll to the bottom of the page, until you see the blue Add Content From Another Course and Add Lesson buttons
From here, choose the option that fits what you want to add:
Add Content From Another Course
Use this to pull in whole units or a mix of lessons from an existing course.
Click Add Content From Another Course, and a popup will show the full CodeHop course catalog.
Search for and select the course you'd like to add units/lessons from.
Select what units/lessons you want to add. You can click Select All to select every unit in the course, and you can use Show All Lessons / Hide All Lessons to expand or collapse every unit at once.
Click Assign Selected to add your choices to the Section. They will appear at the bottom of the Section's lessons.
Add Lesson
Use this to find and add a single lesson.
Click Add Lesson to open the full CodeHop lesson catalog.
Scroll through the lessons or use the search box to find one. You can also use the grade-level dropdown menu to narrow lessons by grade.
Click the lesson you want to add to your Section. A green banner in the upper-right corner of the page will confirm it was added to your Section.
You can explore the different Elementary Course content available on CodeHop by clicking on Courses, located on the left navigation bar.
Adding Lessons to Your Favorites
You can favorite a lesson from two places: click All Lessons on the left nav bar to browse the full lesson library, or click Courses to browse by course. In either view, click the Heart in the top right corner of a lesson to add it to your favorites.
You can access your favorite lessons by clicking Favorite Lessons on the left nav bar.
