Overview
The Backpack lets students save parts of a CodeHop program and reuse them in a different program. Instead of rebuilding a character or re-uploading a sound, students drag it into their Backpack once and pull it out whenever they need it.
The Backpack is available in CodeHop programs. Note: It is not available in CodeHop Jr.
What Students Can Save
Item | What it saves |
Sprites | The whole sprite, including its costumes, sounds, and code |
Costumes | A single costume image |
Sounds | A single sound |
Scripts | A stack of code blocks |
Each student has their own Backpack. Items stay in it between programs and sessions until the student deletes them.
How to Use the Backpack
Save an item
Open a CodeHop program.
Click Backpack at the bottom of the editor to open it.
Drag a sprite, costume, sound, or stack of code blocks into the Backpack.
Reuse an item in another program
Open the program where you want to use the item.
Open the Backpack.
Drag the item from the Backpack into the program. Sprites go into the sprite area, costumes and sounds go into their tabs, and scripts go into the code area.
The item is copied into the new program. The original stays in the Backpack so it can be used again.
Delete an item
Right-click the item in the Backpack and select Delete.
Backpack Limits
Each Backpack holds up to 10 items.
Each item can be up to 5 MB.
Ideas for the Classroom
Build on past work. Students can save a character from an earlier lesson and bring it into a new project.
Reusable code. Students can save a script they use often, like arrow-key movement, and drag it into each new program.
Personal asset library. Students can keep a favorite sprite or sound ready for any project.
CodeHop Curriculum is included with a CodeHop License. If you believe you should have access to the CodeHop Platform, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager or send an email to sales@codehs.com.
