Overview

CodeHS offers its own version of the Scratch and ScratchJr software, designed specifically for schools. It allows schools and districts to utilize these platforms without directly accessing external websites.

This integration helps schools meet privacy compliance requirements while enabling students to engage in block-based coding within a secure learning environment.

Why is This Important?

Many schools and districts, particularly in states with stricter student data privacy laws, cannot use Scratch or ScratchJr directly due to privacy policies. By using the CodeHS-embedded version, schools can bypass these issues because:

  • Students do not visit external websites—all interactions occur within CodeHS.

  • The CodeHS Privacy Policy applies, ensuring compliance with student data protection requirements.

  • No separate Scratch or ScratchJr accounts are required, preventing external data collection concerns.

Does the CodeHS Privacy Agreement Cover This?

Yes. Since students are only accessing Scratch and ScratchJr through CodeHS, the CodeHS Privacy Policy governs their usage. Schools and districts that comply with CodeHS’s policies can confidently use these coding tools without additional privacy concerns.

How Does It Work?

  • All interactions with Scratch and ScratchJr happen within the CodeHS platform—students will not need to navigate to those external sites for their coding projects.

  • Schools and districts that previously could not use Scratch or ScratchJr due to privacy restrictions can now access these tools in a compliant way through CodeHS.

  • If a district accepts the CodeHS privacy policy, they can safely use our version of Scratch and ScratchJr without needing separate approvals.

Next Steps for Schools & Districts

  1. Review the CodeHS Privacy Policy to ensure compliance with district requirements.

  2. If additional documentation is required, reach out to privacy@codehs.com for assistance.

This integration is a great solution for schools looking to offer block-based coding instruction while maintaining compliance with privacy regulations!
