LTI 1.1 For Administrators: Setting Up the External Tool in Schoology

This article explains the instructions for administrators and/or teachers who wish to set up the LTI 1.1 tool in Schoology.

πŸ’‘ In order to set up CodeHS as an external tool in Schoology, you will need your Consumer Key and Shared Secret from CodeHS.

Locating your Consumer Key and Shared Secret

You can find your Consumer Key and Shared Secret by navigating to Account Settings > LMS Integration:

Overview

This guide will walk Schoology administrators through the process of setting up CodeHS as an external tool within their Schoology account. By following these steps, you can easily add CodeHS to your Schoology environment, allowing your teachers and students to access CodeHS resources directly from Schoology. If you encounter any issues or need assistance, please reach out to your CodeHS Customer Success Manager or success@codehs.com.

Setting up CodeHS as an External Tool in Schoology

Schools and Districts are able to set up the CodeHS External Tool on a System-wide level (to be available to all teachers).

or

District Administrators or Teachers can set up the CodeHS External Tool on a Course level (only Available within that Course in Schoology).

Setting up CodeHS on the System-wide Level

  1. From your System Admin account, click Tools in the header.

  2. Select School Management.

  3. Click Integration in the left menu.

  4. Click External Tools.

  5. Click Add External Tool Provider.

Enter the following information exactly as shown below:

  • Tool Name: CodeHS

  • Consumer Key: {ENTER THE KEY PROVIDED BY CODEHS}

  • Shared Secret: {ENTER THE SECRET PROVIDED BY CODEHS}

  • Privacy: Privacy: Send Name and Email/Username of user who launches the tool

  • Configuration Type: Manual

  • Match By: Domain

  • Domain/URL: codehs.com

  • Custom Parameters: {LEAVE BLANK}

Setting up CodeHS on the Course Level

  1. From your Teacher account, click Courses in the header.

  2. Select your Course.

  3. Click Course Options in the left menu.

  4. Click External Tool Providers.

  5. Click Add External Tool Provider.

Enter the following information exactly as shown below:

  • Tool Name: CodeHS

  • Consumer Key: {ENTER THE KEY PROVIDED BY CODEHS}

  • Shared Secret: {ENTER THE SECRET PROVIDED BY CODEHS}

  • Privacy: Privacy: Send Name and Email/Username of user who launches the tool

  • Configuration Type: Manual

  • Match By: Domain

  • Custom Parameters: {LEAVE BLANK}
