Starting September 13th, 2017, the pretest will be added to your student’s course, as the first module of their course. You can plan on setting aside 15 minutes of class time in the first few weeks of class to have students complete the pretest. Emphasize to students that this is not a measure of how smart or good at computer science they are, but rather a tool for you to measure how much they learn and grow throughout the year. They can’t pass or fail this test, but they should answer honestly and give their best attempt.

Once your students have completed the pretest, you will have access to the results. Unlike our regular assessments, teachers on both the Free and Pro plans will be able to view class data for the CodeHS pretest. We hope that you find this data useful to identify any potential misunderstandings and plan your instruction for the rest of the year.
