Learn to create assignments and playlists in the Create app: add, edit, assign, copy, and archive content.

Create App Overview

The Create app on CodeHS allows teachers to develop, manage, and organize Assignments and Playlists. It provides tools for creating new Assignments, viewing and editing existing ones, and organizing them into Playlists.

Navigating to the Create App

  1. Open the Sidebar Menu.

  2. Click on "Assignments" to expand the category.

  3. Click the "Create app".

Using the Create App Tools

The Create app features two tools, which can be accessed by the tabs at the top of the page: Assignments and Playlists.

Assignments

Assignments is the main page of the Create app. Here you can view, create, and manage your assignments.

Create a New Assignment

The Create app makes it simple to create new Assignments tailored to your course needs. Follow these steps to create a new assignment:

  1. Click the “Create New Assignment” Button

  2. Choose Assignment Type

  3. Choose Program Type

  4. Enter Activity Details

    1. Title: Provide a clear and concise title for the assignment.

    2. Description: Write a detailed description outlining the purpose, requirements, and any instructions for the assignment.

    3. Starter Code: Add any starter code or templates that students will need to complete the assignment.

  5. Click "Save and Finish"

Viewing Assignments

In the Assignments tool, you will find a list of your current Assignments. Each entry provides key information, including the Assignment name, associated courses, associated Playlists, and the last updated date and time. Here’s how you can view and understand the details of your Assignments:

Assignment Name: Displays the type and title of the Assignment (e.g., “Exercise: JS Activity Two”). Clicking on the Assignment name allows you to preview the Assignment.

Courses: Indicates the Course(s) to which the Assignment belongs.

Playlists: Shows any Playlists that include the Assignment.

Updated: Displays the date and time when the Assignment was last modified.

Managing Assignments

Each Assignment in the list has a three-dot menu on the right, offering several management options:

Options

Description

Usage

Edit

Opens the Assignment for editing.

Click “Edit” to modify the Assignment’s content, settings, and details.

View

Allows you to view the Assignment as a student.

Click “View” to see how the Assignment appears to students, ensuring it is clear and functional.

Assign

Assigns the Assignment to a specific course or section.

Click “Assign” to allocate the Assignment to your students or classes.

Add to Playlist

Adds the Assignment to a Playlist for better organization.

Click “Add to Playlist” to include the Assignment in a relevant Playlist, helping you organize Course content.

Copy

Creates a duplicate of the Assignment.

Click “Copy” to make a copy of the Assignment, which you can then use in another Course or modify without affecting the original.

Archive

Archives the Assignment.

Click “Archive” to archive Assignments that are no longer needed, keeping your list organized and current.

Playlists

In the Playlists tool, you will see a list of your current Playlists along with an option to create a new one.

Viewing Playlists

In the Playlists tool, you will find a list of your current Playlists. Each entry provides key information to help you identify and organize your Playlists. Clicking on the title of the Playlist allows you to view the Playlist details, assign a Playlist to a Course, and View the Playlist Bank.
