πŸ’‘ In order for assignment grades to pass back, students need to launch each assignment from Canvas (i.e., exercise 1.1.1, exercise 1.1.2, etc.).

  • If you're not sure if a student has launched the assignment, you can take a look at the CodeHS Gradebook app. Under the Settings tool, there is the option to show a flag on assignments that are linked to Canvas.

πŸ’‘ Tip: check weekly to see which assignments have been launched by students and which have not. Some teachers like to spend time at the beginning of each semester having students launch each assignment so that they are all linked from the start. Students can also launch activities after completing the assignment (retroactively).

The flags will show up as checkmarks on assignments in the Overview tool:

  • If you see any boxes that do not have the checkmark, that indicates that the student has not launched from Canvas, but they can do so retroactively to sync the grades.

To view the checkmarks by individual assignments only, go to the By Assignment tool in the Gradebook app. You can also get there by clicking on any of the assignment names in the Overview tool in the Gradebook app.

  • If you see that a student has launched, but the grade is not passing back, you can manually report the scores to Canvas.

In addition to the teacher Gradebook view, students are also able to see whether they have or have not launched an assignment from Canvas!

  • From their homepage, students will see a list of assignments that have not been launched. As soon as they launch an assignment, as long as it has been graded, the grade will pass back from CodeHS to Canvas.

  • NOTE: Students will only see these notifications if you choose to include that type of assignment in your CodeHS Gradebook. Information below

They will also see a warning sign on any assignment that has not been launched, as well as a banner on the top of any assignment that has not been launched.

  • Some teachers do not want to include specific types of assignments in their gradebook for a few reasons: you watch videos as a class, students are not completing any work in the examples and badges, etc.

  • If you would like grades for a specific assignment type to not be passed back from CodeHS to Canvas (such as videos, examples, or badges), go to the Gradebook app > click the Settings tool > go to the Include in Gradebook section > uncheck any boxes for assignment types that you would not like to include.

  • If you are still seeing the assignment titles in your Canvas gradebook, depending on your permissions, you may be able to remove them directly from the Canvas gradebook.

  • Make sure to make this change for each of your sections!
