Districts control access to AI tools.
District and school admins can turn any CodeHS AI tool on or off from the AI Policies page in the Administrator Dashboard. Student-facing AI tools also stay off by default until a teacher enables them for a class. Learn more at AI Settings for School and District Administrators.
Which Tools Use AI Credits
☑️ Vibe Coding uses AI credits. Each request a student or teacher makes consumes credits, and requests that generate images use more than text-only requests.
☑️ Ask AI uses AI credits. Each request a teacher makes pulls from the same credit pool as Vibe Coding. If a deal purchases more AI credits, this goes to Ask AI as well.
❎ Smart Hints do not use credits. Students have a five-message daily limit instead.
❎ AI Grading, AI Teacher Hints, and AI Creator all do not have limits. We have standard rate limiting to avoid abuse.
What's Included with CodeHS Pro
Every CodeHS Pro plan includes AI credits at no additional cost. The amount included is based on your license type and the number of licenses you purchased, so it varies from school to school.
Credits are shared across Vibe Coding and Ask AI by all teachers and students on your account, and they're good for one school year — unused credits don't carry into the next year.

Weekly and Monthly Limits
Usage is capped two ways: a monthly limit and a weekly limit. The weekly limit is half the monthly limit, so a class can use up to half a month's credits in a single week — and could use a full month's allowance in two weeks.
Limits apply at each individual user level — teachers have their own limit, and their students’ limits do not affect their own limits. There is also a district or school level AI Limit, depending on your account agreement. Once this limit is reached, all teachers and students on the deal will be blocked from using AI credits, even if they have weekly or monthly credits left.
Seeing Your Credit Usage
Teachers can view credit usage for a Section, including per student, at https://codehs.com/app/vibe_coding_settings. Students see their remaining balance in the Vibe Coding editor.
Administrators can see https://codehs.com/app/administrator/vibe_coding. If you are looking for access to this feature and do not have access, please contact your account manager or accounts@codehs.com.
Students Reaching the Credit Limit
When a student reaches their credit limit, no progress will be lost, and their available credits will reset on Monday.
Buying Additional Credits
Districts can purchase additional AI credits. Contact your Account Manager or accounts@codehs.com.
