What is LOGIC?
LOGIC is CodeHS's pre- and post-assessment platform. Students take a pretest at the start of a course and a posttest at the end, and teachers receive growth reports that show what their students have learned — per class, per student, and by course concept.
How do I get access to LOGIC assessments?
LOGIC assessments are included with CodeHS Pro for supported courses this school year. Pro teachers can find the LOGIC app under the Curriculum category in the left-hand navigation menu.
How much does it cost?
LOGIC is available free to Pro teachers for this school year. District packages are available as an add-on purchase. Contact our team at sales@codehs.com to learn more.
Do I need to purchase vouchers for LOGIC assessments?
No — LOGIC assessments do not require vouchers.
Which courses offer LOGIC assessments?
LOGIC assessments are available for popular CodeHS courses like AP CSP, AP CSA, Introduction to Python Programming, Web Design, and Introduction to Computer Science in JavaScript, as well as state-specific courses in Texas, Tennessee, Nebraska, Georgia, and South Carolina. Don't see your course? Contact our team — new courses are added regularly.
How are LOGIC assessments different from course quizzes?
The biggest feature difference between LOGIC assessments and our in-course assessments is the data reporting that accompanies student results — we calculate growth per class and per student, and we also provide a breakdown by course concepts.
The other big difference is that this exam is much more secure than our course quizzes. The LOGIC assessments are designed so every student will have a different set of questions, and the exam is administered in focus mode. Students also won’t be able to access their exam questions except when it is being administered.
My course is customized. Will the assessment still match?
LOGIC assessments align to the standard CodeHS version of each course. If you have modified the course, some assessed concepts may not match what you taught.
What topics and concepts are covered in each assessment?
Each assessment is aligned to its CodeHS course and applicable state standards, with questions covering concepts from across the full course. Results are broken down by concept, such as Loops, Arrays, and Conditional Logic.
How long are the assessments, and how many questions do they contain?
Each assessment is 30 questions. The assessment must be taken in one sitting. We recommend that students have 45 minutes to take the exam, but timing may vary.
What is the testing environment like, and how do we prevent cheating?
There are a few ways LOGIC assessments keep results secure:
Focus Mode: Once a student starts an assessment, they cannot navigate to other CodeHS pages until they submit the assessment.
Randomized Questions: Each student receives a different set of questions drawn from curated question banks, and a student's posttest never repeats their pretest questions.
Teacher Controls: Teachers control when the assessment is available, who takes it, and whether students can view results.
Can I see the assessments before or after I administer them?
To protect the integrity of the exam, teachers cannot see exam questions at any point. Teachers can see student performance by question topic.
How do I administer a LOGIC assessment to my students?
From the teacher view, open the Administer tool in the LOGIC app and select your section, assessment, and students. Click Make Available to open the assessment or Push to Students to send it directly to their screens. For step-by-step instructions, check out the Measuring Student Growth with the LOGIC App article.
When should I administer the pretest and posttest?
Give the pretest in the first few weeks of the school year before significant instruction to establish baseline knowledge, and the posttest at the end of the course to measure growth.
Do LOGIC assessments count toward students' grades?
No — LOGIC assessments are diagnostic and do not appear in the gradebook.
What reports do teachers get?
A dashboard with results and pre/post growth comparison for your own sections and students. For more details, check out the Measuring Student Growth with the LOGIC App article.
What do students see?
Students take the assessment in focus mode during administration. They can't revisit their exam after it is completed. Teachers can decide if they want to allow students to view their LOGIC assessment reports. For more details, check out the For Students: How to Access Logic Assessments article.
Can a student's LOGIC assessment be reset?
Students should only take the pretest and posttest one time. The pretest should be taken at the beginning of the year, and the posttest should be taken after the student has completed the course.
If there are extenuating circumstances (for example, the assessment session was interrupted), get in touch with our support team at support@codehs.com to help reset the student's test.
Can we customize the assessments or preview questions?
Custom assessments, question review, and district-specific versions are available through the district package. Contact our team at sales@codehs.com to learn more.
Can I export my results?
Data exports are part of the district package. Contact our team at sales@codehs.com to learn more.
How do admins view LOGIC results and reporting?
District-level reporting — growth by teacher, school and district roll-ups, and data exports — is available through the CodeHS district package. Contact our team at sales@codehs.com to learn more.
You can also find more information about this district-level reporting in the Tracking Data with the Administrator Dashboard article.
