CodeHS LOGIC Assessments (Learner Outcomes for Growth and Computing) are designed to help educators measure student growth in computer science throughout the school year. These assessments include a pretest given at the start of the course and a posttest administered at the end of the course.

The LOGIC app on CodeHS is where you can view available LOGIC assessments, administer these assessments to students, and access reports that provide clear insights into student performance and learning growth over time.

You can find the LOGIC app under the Curriculum category in the left-hand navigation menu:

The LOGIC app features three tools, which can be accessed by the tabs at the top of the page: Overview, Administer, and Growth.

In the Overview tool, you can view all of your courses that offer LOGIC assessments. You can also see how many sections are using each course's LOGIC assessments and find additional information about those sections, their students, and their assessments.

Click the arrow next to a course name to view more information about the sections that can take that course's LOGIC assessment. For each section, you can view the number of students, the number of questions on the pretest and posttest, and whether either assessment has been administered.

To administer an assessment, click the blue Administer pretest or Administer posttest button next to a section. This will take you to the Administer tool, where you can assign the selected assessment to your students.

In the Administer tool, you can manage how students in a section take a LOGIC assessment. Use the Section and Assessment dropdowns at the top of the page to choose which section and which pretest or posttest you are administering.

Each student in the section is listed along with their assessment status, the date the assessment is available until, the date they took the assessment, and whether they can view their results in their account.

Use the checkboxes (or Select All and Deselect All) to choose students, then use the buttons at the bottom of the page to:

If you click the blue Assign button option, a pop-up window will appear where you can optionally set a deadline for when students must begin the assessment. After setting a deadline (or leaving it blank), click the green Assign button in the pop-up window to make the assessment available to the selected students.

After the assessment is assigned, students will see it on their student dashboard and assignment page for the course, where they can complete it asynchronously.

In the Growth tool, you can view reports on how your students performed and how much they grew between the pretest and posttest. Use the Assessment, Section, and Student dropdowns at the top of the page to choose which results to view.

At the top of the report, you'll see your section's average pretest and posttest scores, along with growth shown in both points and percentage.

Below, the Overall Pre-Test vs Post-Test charts compare score distributions, and the category table breaks down results by concept, such as Loops, Arrays, and If/Else and Conditional Logic, so you can see exactly where students improved.

At the bottom of the page, the By Student section shows each student's individual pretest score, posttest score, and growth. You can click on a student's name to expand their specific score distribution charts:
