LOGIC App Overview

CodeHS LOGIC Assessments (Learner Outcomes for Growth and Computing) are designed to help educators measure student growth in computer science throughout the school year. These assessments include a pretest given at the start of the course and a posttest administered at the end of the course.

The LOGIC app on CodeHS is where you can view available LOGIC assessments, administer these assessments to students, and access reports that provide clear insights into student performance and learning growth over time.

You can find the LOGIC app under the Curriculum category in the left-hand navigation menu:

Using the LOGIC App Tools

The LOGIC app features three tools, which can be accessed by the tabs at the top of the page: Overview, Administer, and Growth.

Overview

In the Overview tool, you can view all LOGIC assessments available to your sections. Each assessment displays its pretest and posttest grouped together, along with the number of questions, and a list of your sections below.

  • Click Administer Pretest or Administer Posttest next to a section name to navigate to the Administer tool.

  • Click on View Growth next to a section name to navigate to the Growth tool.

Administer

In the Administer tool, you can manage how students in a section take a LOGIC assessment. Use the Section and Assessment dropdowns at the top of the page to choose which section and which pretest or posttest you are administering.

Each student in the section is listed along with their assessment status and whether they can view their results. Use the checkboxes (or Select All and Deselect All) to choose students, then use the buttons at the bottom of the page to:

  • Make Available: Open the assessment so selected students can take it

  • Push to Students: Send the assessment directly to selected students

  • Allow View Results: Let selected students see their results after finishing

  • Hide Results: Hide results from selected students

Growth

In the Growth tool, you can view reports on how your students performed and how much they grew between the pretest and posttest. Use the Assessment, Section, and Student dropdowns at the top of the page to choose which results to view.

At the top of the report, you'll see your section's average pretest and posttest scores, along with growth shown in both points and percentage.

Below, the Overall Pre-Test vs Post-Test charts compare score distributions, and the category table breaks down results by concept, such as Loops, Arrays, and If/Else and Conditional Logic, so you can see exactly where students improved.

Click on a Category name to view its specific score distribution charts:

At the bottom of the page, the By Student section shows each student's individual pretest score, posttest score, and growth. You can click on a student's name to expand their specific score distribution charts:
