Kickstart Your CS Classroom with CodeHS 2026–27 Teaching Cohort

Everything Teachers New to CS or New to CodeHS Need to Launch a Successful Coding Classroom

Written by Cameron Snow

Overview

Teaching computer science for the first time is exciting — and it can also feel overwhelming. Between building their programming content knowledge and learning how to manage a coding classroom, new CS teachers have a lot on their plates before the first day of school. Additionally, navigating a new coding platform while searching for the necessary tools and capabilities can result in overload.

To support educators building their CS practice, CodeHS developed Kickstart Your CS Classroom with CodeHS, a year-long professional learning experience designed primarily for teachers who are new to computer science or new to the CodeHS platform. Whether you're stepping into CS for the first time or you're an experienced CS teacher looking to level up your CodeHS skills, this cohort gives you the tools, strategies, and community to feel confident from day one.

Participants will develop a strong foundation in the CodeHS platform, explore research-backed instructional strategies for the coding classroom — including approaches like PRIMM, mob coding, and Parsons puzzles — and build practical skills in areas like grading, collaboration, customization, and differentiation. The cohort is designed to meet you where you are and grow with you throughout the year — from setting up your first section to thinking about how to expand your school's CS program over time.
