CodeHS now offers a semester-length PCEP Certification Prep course and a PCEP Certification Prep supplemental module for Introduction to Python Programming. Both options are aligned to the PCEP™ – Certified Entry-Level Python Programmer exam objectives and help students build foundational Python skills and confidence for the exam.
What is the PCEP Certification?
The PCEP™ – Certified Entry-Level Python Programmer certification is an industry-recognized credential that measures a student’s understanding of fundamental programming concepts in Python. The certification exam is administered by the Python Institute (OpenEDG) and assesses a student’s ability to implement the following concepts in Python:
Computer Programming and Python Fundamentals
Control Flow – Conditional Blocks and Loops
Data Collections – Tuples, Dictionaries, Lists, and Strings
Functions and Exceptions
Note: The PCEP exam is external and not administered by CodeHS. We recommend purchasing and scheduling the exam directly through OpenEDG.
Course and Supplemental Module
Teachers can choose between two flexible options to help students prepare for the PCEP exam:
PCEP Certification Prep Course
A full one-semester (70 contact hours) course designed specifically for PCEP preparation. It introduces core computer science and Python programming concepts, provides hands-on practice aligned to exam objectives, and includes review materials to reinforce learning.

PCEP Certification Prep Supplemental Module
If you’re already teaching Introduction to Python Programming, you can easily integrate this module to extend coverage of key concepts aligned with the PCEP exam. Instructions for integration are included in the module.
Visit your course assignments page and add this module to your course from the supplemental content list.
