Overview
The Assign Modal is the window you use to add an activity to your students. This article covers where to open it, how it works step by step, and what Free and Pro teachers can each do.
Opening the Assignment Modal
You can open the Assign Modal from several places in CodeHS. Wherever you start, it opens the same way — once it's open, follow the steps in Using the Assign Modal to finish.
Project Catalog
Select Project Catalog in the left navigation menu
Select a project
Click the green Assign button
Choose the course or individual student(s)
Click Next
Click the blue Assign button
Assignments App
Navigate to the Assignments app from the left navigation menu
Scroll to the bottom of the Courses and Assignments page
Select Search for Content
Select Assign from the dropdown menu next to the Supplemental Material(s) you want to add
Note: You can also assign projects from the Assignments app > Select the blue + Add button > CodeHS Project
Practice Page
Navigate to Practice from the left navigation menu
Locate the set of practice problems you want to assign
Click the "..." (more options)
Select Assign
Pro User Note: Once Practice material is assigned, you'll be able to view it in the Gradebook:

After you create an activity:
Click the folder ‘+’ icon to open the Assign Modal
QuizBuzz App
Navigate to the QuizBuzz app from the left navigation menu
Select My QuizBuzzes tab
Under Global Quizbuzzes, Click the "..." next to the QuizBuzz you want to assign
Select Assign to Course
Create App
Under My Assignments, Click the "..." next to the activity of your choosing
Select Assign
Using the Assign Modal
Once the Assign Modal is open, follow these steps to finish setting up the assignment. CodeHS lets you assign either to a whole course/section or to individual students.
To assign to a Course or Section:
Select the Course where you want to assign the activity
Click Next
To Assign to Individual Students (Pro):
CodeHS Pro Feature: Assigning to individual students from this window is only available to CodeHS Pro teachers.
Toggle on Assign by Individual Student
Use the dropdown to select the students you want. You can select more than one student at a time.
Select Next
Choose Where to Place an Activity
By default, activities are placed at the end of the course. To put it somewhere else:
Use the dropdown to select a different placement in the course
Select Next
Configure Settings
Adjust Availability, Due Date, Grading, and Advanced Settings as needed. Learn more here.
