CodeHS runs best from a laptop, desktop, or Chromebook, but it can also work on tablets like iPads. Here are some best practices to improve performance and usability of the site for tablets.

Install Google Chrome for iPad

Performance can be improved by using Google Chrome rather than Safari or other browsers. Download Google Chrome on the App Store.

Make sure Chrome is up-to-date

To update Google Chrome:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.

  2. At the top right, click More .

  3. Click Update Google Chrome. Important: If you can't find this button, you're on the latest version.

  4. Click Relaunch.

Disable Smart Quotes

By default, iPads correct certain quote marks to double quotes (" ") which will cause errors in student code. Disabling Smart Punctuation will fix this issue.

On the iPad, go to:

Settings > General > Keyboard > toggle off Smart Punctuation:

Highlight Multiple Lines of Code

To highlight multiple lines of code in the code editor, quadruple tap on the line number. Quadruple tapping will select all lines.
